In 2005, our United Way received a gift from the Leo and Mabel Scott estate. Over the last ten years, the Scott’s fund provided your United Way with funding, beyond the campaign, to award special grants totaling over $650,000 to non profit agencies serving Cooke County. In 2013, Cooke County United Way received the Winger Memorial Trust. Funds from this trust allowed United Way to purchase an office building. The new offices have been named the Tommy Winger Building and is located at 114 E. Main Street downtown Gainesville, Texas. The Winger Trust has also provided United Way the ability to award over $75,000 in special grants benefitting Cooke County. Both estates are currently providing United Way with mineral rights proceeds which will provide United Way an opportunity to award future Community Impact grants benefitting Cooke County. An Endowment Fund has now been established and the 2014 year end investment portfolio is over $380,000. Annual distributions from the Endowment will assist Cooke County United Way with its mission and goals.
Benefits of Giving
Your gift is a sound investment benefitting you and your family today and will serve those in need in our community in years to come. Although most individuals do not make contributions to United Way for tax-related reasons, you may find that you and your family will significantly benefit from laws governing charitable contributions, especially as they relate to estate and qualified retirement plan taxes. Please check with your accountant or financial advisor.
Our Commitment to You:
In return for your trust in us, we promise to maximize the impact of every dollar you invest in our community. Your money will be wisely spent and we will be a responsible community member and transparently share our progress.
